At Lamberhurst St Mary’s we believe that high-quality PE is an entitlement for all children, regardless of their starting points or their prior experiences of sport and physical activity.  We are an inclusive school, where participation and enjoyment in lessons which develop skills, fitness and the enriching language of sports and physical activity is essential.

Our PE curriculum develops our pupils’ knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they canSwimming photo perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities including Athletics, Dance, Games, Gymnastics, Outdoor and adventurous activities, Swimming and water safety.  It is designed to inspire all children to succeed and excel in both competitive and non-competitive sports and physical activities.

It promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action, thinking, selecting and applying skills, and promoting positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle.  Forest School sessions are also provided for every year group. Forest School photo

Our school motto ‘Learning for life in the love of God’ is lived out in our aim to guide and encourage children to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.  We provide regular opportunities for children to compete and to build character and live our school values of Community, Aspiration and Resilience.

PE Photo 7In order to support our teachers in delivering the PE curriculum we use a specialist PE scheme of work called GetSet4PE.  This provides teachers with a wide range of resources to support their teaching, including video demonstrations and structured sequences which build skills towards a final performance.  In lessons, teachers draw attention to good examples of individual performance as models for the other children, and encourage them to evaluate their own work as well as the work of others.  Within lessons, we give the children the opportunity both to collaborate and to compete with each other using a wide range of resources.  As well as teacher led sessions, our pupils benefit from expert specialist teaching in both swimming at Key Stage 2 and dance from our own specialist dance teachers to ensure children are able to meet and often exceed the requirements of the National Curriculum.
